The short answer

Costa’s April–August 2026 guide assigns one shot to a Small drink-in Latte, two to Small takeaway and Medium, and three to Large. Cappuccino uses two, three and four by size. The Flat White uses three Cortissimo shots, not three ordinary espresso shots.

These Costa figures are from the guide for 30 April–26 August 2026. We haven’t checked a newer recipe yet, so ask Costa or check the latest menu if you need the current amount.

A dated answer, not a current-menu promise

The Costa guide used here applies to 30 April–26 August 2026. These are documented historical recipes, not a verified current menu. Check the present store recipe before relying on a shot count.

Why Small latte isn’t one recipe

The document separates the Small drink-in Latte from Small takeaway. Both names include Small, but the recorded shot counts differ. A search result giving a single answer for “small Costa latte” loses that distinction. Keep preparation alongside the size when entering a drink into the builder or tracker.

Three shots doesn’t automatically mean 300 mg

Costa’s published ordinary Signature Blend table gives 100, 200, 325 and 400 mg for one through four shots. CaffCalc uses those rows rather than multiplying one shot by every count. These are naturally variable source values, not precision measurements of a particular extraction.

Flat White uses a different extraction

The named Flat White’s three Cortissimo shots are listed at 241 mg in the dated document. Substituting the ordinary three-shot 325 mg row would misrepresent the recipe. The Cortado uses another documented preparation. A count without extraction type can’t reliably determine a dose.

Milk and cup volume don’t reveal shot count

Adding milk changes the drink’s volume, but not the caffeine already in a fixed coffee component. A larger cup can use the same shot count as a smaller one. Only calculate concentration when a documented finished volume exists; CaffCalc doesn’t infer millilitres from a size name or drink weight.

How to record a customised order

Start with the named standard serving and check whether a requested extra shot is additional, not already included. Use a compatible documented extraction for any addition. Decaf, half-caf and substitutions require their own evidence. If a store recipe differs from this historical guide, the old builder isn’t a verification of that order.
